ASL stands for American Sign Language. ASL is a complete, natural language used primarily by the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing in the US and parts of Canada. It is a visual language expressed through handshapes, facial expressions, and body movements but it is NOT a visual representation of English; it has its own unique grammar, syntax and word order. It is not universal – different countries have their own sign languages.

She holds a MICS BASIC CERTIFICATION with the state of MO since 2009. Refuge has had an active Deaf Ministry since Oct. 27, 2024. Since ASL is the 3rd most commonly used language in the US, Sherry offers FREE ASL lessons to any who want to learn via Zoom. ASL in high demand…the US Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the employment of interpreters and translator to grow 24% from 2020-2030.
